What does a Safe back to Work mean to you as an employee? And what is it for you as an enterprise? What systems need to be put in place to instil a sense of safety and security – not just for your employees but also for your business stakeholders? And while at this, can you help in facilitating a quick and safe quest for successful medical solution(s) for this pandemic?
I set the context for these in this episode of Blockchain in the New norm – along with some criteria for the feasible solutions. And yes, also how blockchain is becoming an important cog – or should I say a vital link in this.
Welcome to the Blockchain Hustle where I take a look at some interesting plays of how blockchain technology is opening up new business vistas across multiple industries.

Wednesday Jul 15, 2020
Wednesday Jul 15, 2020
I started this series with an attempt to share with a friend some pointers towards how blockchain helps in the public sector. Bet even she did not realize that her brief query would result into a 14 episodes podcast series delve!!
The objective is to look at the inherent role of public sector along with citizens’ expectations from it. Identify the gaps and then see if blockchain can help there.
Here is a summary of what we explored in this complete Blockchain in public sector series.
Welcome to the Blockchain Hustle where I take a look at some interesting plays of how blockchain technology is opening up new business vistas across multiple industries.
TIME STAMPED SHOW NOTES:
[00.17] Introduction to this episode
[01.22] Part 1: Introduction to the series (https://tinyurl.com/rbdj77a)
[01.27] Part 2: In the 2nd episode I set down the primary context - basis which we would explore the infrastructure required and how blockchain comes up as an important lever. Presented the role of the government (and hence public sector) along with the expectations of the citizens. So mainly the transforming public – private engagements. (https://tinyurl.com/y76yly6j)
[01.50] Part 3: Here I listed a few required facets and corresponding blockchain features that can be leveraged for the transforming public -private engagements. This was followed by main areas in public sector holding the most promise for blockchain accompanied by broad outlines of specific groups of use cases. (https://youtu.be/wmrx6o0au14)
[02.14] Part 4: Episodes 4 to 9 had shares of real life bc projects undertaken by the public sector across the world. And for this I picked up a diverse set of applications and purpose. In the 4th episode I shared Georgia’s efforts towards bringing a secure and efficient land registry via blockchain. This episode also showcased how Malta has addressed issues with academic credential verification, storage and transferability using blockchain.(https://tinyurl.com/y4g7oucr)
[03.01] Part 5: Episode 5 had share from Netherlands and Switzerland - Enhanced targetting of Public money, an improved cost efficient secure and transparent Pension administration and a Decentralized identity for citizens (https://tinyurl.com/y2tvna2n)

[03.26] Part 7: Included key insights from projects in India - Sanctity of single source of truth, Suitability of atomic vs. non-atomic transactions, Integration with legacy systems, Initial cost of implementation – these and more are part of some key learnings from blockchain projects pursued by India think tank, Niti Aayog (https://tinyurl.com/yyeuheft)
[03.55] Part 8 and 9: Covered examples from UAE and Thailand (https://tinyurl.com/y99lugzp, https://tinyurl.com/y9fung8r)
[04.02] Part 10: Looked at the blockchain use case selection framework. Blockchain has been evolving from a hot tech disruption buzzword towards actual business. But before jumping onto the bandwagon there is one basic question we need to answer and that is – To Blockchain or not to blockchain (https://tinyurl.com/y47qrwea)
[04.34] Part 11 and 12: Looked at how blockchain can help address corruption, what are the major corruption subjects and a look into some examples where the public sector is leveraging blockchain to mitigate – if not eliminate this problem. (https://tinyurl.com/yappaljz, https://tinyurl.com/y6wxzo79)
[05.02] Part 13: Shared some overall common characteristics of initial blockchain projects picked by public sector along with key points to keep in mind at blockchain implementation (https://youtu.be/Gf8Ef0xu3c0)
[05.24] Wrap-up
So, this brings us to the end of this podcast series on blockchain for public sector. Hope you have found this helpful and also enjoyed listening to this series – I for one did enjoy making this. Will shortly come back with a new topic. Should you have any suggestions on this, give me shout out.

Episode 20: Blockchain in Public sector - Part 13 (Learnings)
Wednesday Jul 08, 2020
Wednesday Jul 08, 2020
Over the last several episodes in this series, I have shared quite a few examples from multiple geographies and spanning various public sector initiatives anchored in blockchain like land title registry, traceability of agri-produce, disbursement of public funds and subsidies, secure data exchange, credentials verification, decentralized identity and others.
From these initial blockchain projects, there a few common characteristics which stand out. I consider them as learnings as these may help provide a perspective to entities which are on the adoption threshold. Sharing the same here in this 13th episode of Blockchain in Public sector series.

Episode 18: Blockchain in Public sector - Part 11 (Combating Corruption)
Wednesday Jun 24, 2020
Wednesday Jun 24, 2020
How to solve a problem like corruption?
Corruption is strongly associated with opaque, hidden transactions, distorting of documents and records. Blockchain provides transparency, and immutability. Corruption is associated with centralization and misuse of power - a strong link is observed between number of intermediaries and corruption. And Blockchain is all about decentralization. So, can blockchain help curb corruption and instill trust in public services? Possibly so.
A look at how blockchain can potentially serve as a strong anti-corruption instrument - in this 11th episode of Blockchain in Public sector series.
